Introduction To Scrble Ink (3:30)
Do Configure Your Save Location!
The default Local App Folder will be deleted if you uninstall the app, so I recommend selecting a folder that differs from the default Local App Folder.
Selecting a Folder
You can select any folder on your device for storing all your notes. Scrble will create a Scribble folder in the selected folder, then will create subfolders for all your projects.
Cloud Storage
You can store your notes on any cloud storage that gets synchronized with your local file system. This option allows to:
- Access your notes from multiple devices
- Recover deleted or modified files (most services do provide a revision history)
My recommendation is to use OneDrive or DropBox. I have also tried Google Drive, but they can generate an error during saving since they lock the file when syncing.
Ensure the folder is set to sync offline and that it doesn’t optimize the image size by re-sampling the file, or you will not be able to edit your notes.
OneDrive
If you use OneDrive, please select the Scribble folder and set it to Always Keep on this device.
Not selecting this configuration will cause the application not to function correctly.
Some problems may include crashing during saving, losing saved notes, incorrectly displaying thumbnails, etc.
If you are experiencing these problems but are sure your OneDrive is configured correctly, please email me at mail@scrble.com, and we can further investigate your situation.
Multiple Locations
You can even configure multiple storage locations. Below is a video that shows how to configure and switch among multiple locations.
DO NOT
DO NOT store your notes in Google Drive as a store location for your notes. Google Drive causes Scrble saving to fail and causes loss of changes.
DO NOT store your notes in an external drive. The access external drive doesn’t always perform reliably and may cause the application to crash or the saving to fail.
DO NOT store your notes in the default Local App Folder. The default Local App Folder will be deleted if you uninstall the app, so I recommend selecting a folder that differs from the default Local App Folder.
You can save any note as a template by loading the desired page as a custom template.
Create your page then save it in a folder that you like. My suggestion would be to save the file to a template folder, so you can easily find this among all your custom templates.
To convert ink to text, by recognizing your writing, select the Ink, then press the Recognize button on the top right. Scrble will display a preview of the recognized text so that you can make the necessary edits before copying it to the clipboard or replacing your selection.
Watch the quick video below to see this sequence of steps in action.
You can also email your entire document as recognized ink.
Scrble can convert ink to text in any language and is supported for Ink Recognition by Microsoft. Watch this video to see how to install additional languages.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a simple way at the moment, but it can be done by inserting an empty PDF file. To create an empty file, create a blank text file, then change the file name to empty.pdf.
Reinstalling Scrble from the store can solve various issues. So, it is worth giving it a try.
Before you do, ensure you have no pending OS updates and that your notes are safe.
Check for pending OS updates.
- Click on the Start button on Windows 10, then click on Settings (or search for Settings)
- Select Update and Security
- Click on Check for updates
If you customized your save location
If you had customized your save location, you could safely uninstall the app without losing your notes.
If your save location is the Local App Folder (the only option for Scrble Lite)
If you are using Scrble Lite, you must follow these instructions to uninstall without losing your notes. You should also use these instructions if you use Scrble Ink, but did not select a storage location. In other words, if your save location is the Local App Folder (default location).
The video below shows the steps for Scrble Lite, but you can follow similar steps in Scrble Ink.
Alternative method:
- Find your notes in a location that looks something like this:
Scrble Ink: C:Users\AppDataLocalPackages10511ClaudiaWey.inknotespro_9n0kwq747cbjyLocalStateScribble
Scrble Lite: C:Users\AppDataLocalPackages10511ClaudiaWey.ScrbleLite_9n0kwq747cbjyLocalStateScribble - Copy the Scribble folder anywhere safe (your Desktop or Document folder)
- Uninstall the app, then reinstall it.
- To restore your notes, you can either point the Scrble save location to the new location (select the folder containing Scribble) or copy back Scribble content into the AppData location:
Scrble Ink: C:Users\AppDataLocalPackages10511ClaudiaWey.inknotespro_9n0kwq747cbjyLocalStateScribble
Scrble Lite: C:Users\AppDataLocalPackages10511ClaudiaWey.ScrbleLite_9n0kwq747cbjyLocalStateScribble
This is a manual process, and here are the steps:
- Find the location on your device where Scrble Lite has stored the files. Mine looks like this
- C:\Users\<Your Name>\AppData\Local\Packages\10511ClaudiaWey.ScrbleLite_9n0kwq747cbjy\LocalState\Scribble
- Copy the content of this folder into your new Scrble Ink folder location. Mine looks like this
- C:\Users\<Your Name>\AppData\Local\Packages\10511ClaudiaWey.inknotespro_9n0kwq747cbjy\LocalState\Scribble
- Make sure you do not overwrite files with the same name when copying.
- Re-launch Scrble and all the notes you copied should show up
I am considering adding a more seamless way. If you like this feature, please vote for it on the wish list.
